QUESTION: Who can join the Boys & Girls Club? Isn’t it just for “at risk” kids?
ANSWER: No. Any child between the ages of 6-18 may join the Club. Though many of our Club families are struggling financially, the Club was founded to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
QUESTION: How much does it cost to be a member of the Boys & Girls Club?
ANSWER: The Boys & Girls Club is dedicated to making programs affordable to every child who chooses to participate. The standard fee to attend the Boys & Girls Club is $125 for the spring semester and $125 for the fall semester. The fee includes an after-school snack, transportation from the schools to the Club, and some activities. The fee for the eleven week summer program is $275, which includes lunch and a snack each day. No member is turned away for their inability to pay. Each branch has scholarships available for families in need.
QUESTION: What are the hours of operation for the Boys & Girls Club?
ANSWER: The Club is committed to being open and providing a positive environment during the hours when children and families need us most…the hours that Law Enforcement Professionals call “Prime Time for Juvenile Crime”. During the school year the Club is open Monday through Friday 3:00 PM -7:00 PM. During the summer and on school vacations the Club is open 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM
QUESTION: How do kids get to and from the Boys & Girls Club?
ANSWER: A partnership with Jefferson County Schools allows the Club to provide bus transportation from seven local schools. Parents are required to pick their children up at the Club at the end of each day.
QUESTION: What programs does the Boys & Girls Club provide?
ANSWER: We have a lineup of tested and proven , nationally recognized programs that address today's most pressing youth issues, teaching young people the skills they need to succeed in life, such as education, the environment, health, the arts, careers, alcohol/drug and pregnancy prevention, gang prevention, character and leadership development, and athletics.
QUESTION: Is the Boys & Girls Club a safe place for my child? What type of staffing and supervision is provided?
ANSWER: A child’s safety is our number one concern. The Boys & Girls Club is staffed with trained youth development professionals and volunteers who act as positive role models and mentors while providing quality programming. Every staff member and volunteer is screened by a criminal background check and sex offender check prior to working with children. The Boys & Girls Club provides a safe place to learn and grow, positive relationships with caring adult professionals, life-enhancing programs and character development experiences, hope and opportunity– all while having fun. It is truly “The Positive Place For Kids”.
QUESTION: What is the nature of the relationship between the Club and Freedom Fellowship? (and Lakepoint Community Church?)
ANSWER: A cooperative lease arrangement enables the Club and the church to operate independently while sharing facilities.
